What is Chi (Qi)?
Chi is the quantum of the existence of the universe. Therefore, it is the foundation of existence.
Chi (Qi)
The History
The recognition of Chi probably occurred way before written language had developed; however, the mention of Chi in some forms of records had been know for at least 3000 years. The earliest form of Chinese writing, known as oracle bone inscriptions (or Jia Gu Wen in Chinese Pinyin), was accomplished by carving ancient Chinese characters onto tortoise shells and animal scapulas. The oracle bone inscriptions were mainly used for divination and keeping records of events that happened during the Shang Dynasty (1766-1122 B.C.). The graphic character of Chi was found on an oracle bone inscription, and was also discovered on bronze inscriptions of the Shang and Zhou Dynasties (1122 to 221 B.C.). The character is a pictogram (depicting the shape) symbolizing the flow of air.
By the Warring States Period of the late Zhou Dynasty (481-221 B.C.), the evidence proving the existence of the concept of Chi was quite abundant.
Chi, this universal energy, attributes to the fundamental foundation of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurvedic Medicine, two of the oldest medical disciplines in the world.
The Quantum of the Existence of the Universe
Chi, the universal energy, is the smallest phenomenon of the existence of the universe; therefore, the quantum of the existence of the universe. This universal energy is everywhere and in everything. Not able to be explained/detected by photo, electron, proton and neutron, and no known instruments that are capable of detecting Chi, it can be sensed, connected, harnessed and directed by living beings.
The universe runs on quantum rules. Quantum phenomena of chi happen in our daily life from micro to macro levels. Changing the DNA expression by practicing Chigong is an example of micro level of Chi phenomenon. Figuring out what one is up for eating is an example of macro level of Chi phenomenon. All our inherited non-genetic traits are quantum phenomena. Chi is no stranger to us, we chastise chi as stranger, just because a lack of instrumental measurement of it. With the exercise of kin observations, and the abilities to detect and connect with chi by "feeling" and "knowing", Chinese and Indian recognize the existence and the importance of chi thousands years ago.
